What is it all about...

...and how you can participate

As the Wintercompetition 2017 was a great success it will take place in Bremen again next year, hosted by "Crest of Gordon - City of Bremen Pipes & Drums". We hope that we can establish an international stage again to kick off a new competition season. Bigger, nicer and even more Pipes & Drums. Be there or be square!

When and where is it going to happen?

The B.A.G. Wintercompetition 2018 will take place from January 27th to 28th at the following location:

Altes Gymnasium Bremen, Kleine Helle 7-8, 28195 Bremen, Germany

Who is able to participate?

Every piper and drummer can participate. However, there are some important rules concerning each event which can be found on the registration form or on the official B.A.G. website.

Which competitions are taking place?

For the very first time in Germany the B.A.G Winter Competition in Bremen will be offering a practice chanter competition for pipers who have just started and are unable to play the pipes at the level required for the usual beginner level piping competition.
Furthermore, the B.A.G. Winter Competition will also offer solo competitions for drummers – snare, tenor and bass drumming.
The Saturday will be rounded off with quintet competition in Grade 4 marches, open medley and open MSR.

Who are the judges?

We are happy to welcome the following judges at the Wintercompetition.

Rory Grossart
who already judged the event in 2016 and 2017. Rory played with the Strathclyde Police and Scottish Power Pipe Band and this year won the World Pipe Band Championships with the Inveraray and District Pipe Band. He also produces reeds for McCallum!. We are delighted to have him back again for the next event!

Steven McWhirter
...we are happy to welcome this multiple world solo champion and current world pipe band and drum corps champion to Bremen in January!

Cameron Bennett
...is truly from a pipe band family and he played in various grade 2 bands until he won the World Drum Corps prize with the grade 1 Shotts and Dykehead Pipe Band in 2014. We are delighted that Cameron chose to come to Bremen again!

Alasdair Henderson
...is the Pipe Sergeant of the grade 1 world champion pipe band Inveraray and District. Furthermore, he won the Highland Society of London Gold Medal at the Northern Meeting in Inverness this year. He was a judge at the BAG Winter Competition in Hamburg in 2013 and impressed us not just with his talented playing and judging abilities.

This means we will also have solo events for tenor and bass drummer. Furthermore we are going to have a practice chanter competition for beginners who are not playing the pipe well enough yet.
